Consumer Alert
To ensure the protection of consumers as envisaged by the laws regulating food and drugs in Ghana, the following information are given to guide consumers:
- Consumers be a quality conscious. Look out for appropriate labels when buying products. Such labels must include name of the manufacture, date of manufacture, expiry date, country of origin etc. All labels must be written in English language.
- Expired products are a danger to your health, avoid them.
- Every consumer has a responsibility to ensure that expired products are never consumed.
- Consumer responsibility includes buying only products that are wholesome.
- Help flush out expired products from the market by refusing to buy and consume them.
- Is the expired date of the product you are buying defaced? If yes, report the seller without delay to the Complaints Section of the Board or the Police.
- Defacing of expiry dates on product label is a criminal offence. Wholesalers and retailers must regularly check the expiry dates of the products to avoid sale of expired products to consumers.
- Sellers beware, under PNDCL 305B and under LI 1541, it is an offence to offer for sale products that are unwholesome, improperly labelled or expired.
